OpenStack is an open source cloud computing platform that supports both Private clouds and public clouds. It provides a simple, fast, easy to use and quite scalable and feature rich cloud infrastructure building solution.

What is OpenStack?

Openstack is a cloud software designed to run on hardware products like x86, ARM. It has no hardware or software specification requirements, it integrates with legacy systems and third-party products.

Originally, OpenStack was developed by NASA and Rackspace, the first version was released in 2010. Their orientation since the very beginning has been to create an open source project that anyone can use or contribute to. OpenStack is under Apache License 2.0, so the first version has grown widely in the community supported by more than 12000 contributors in nearly 130 countries, and more than 150 companies including Redhat, Canonical, IBM, AT&T , Cisco, Intel, PayPal, Comcast and many others. Up to now, OpenStack has released 13 versions including: Austin, Bexar, Cactus, Diablo, Essex, Folsom, Grizzly, Havana, Icehouse, Juno, Kilo, Liberty, Mitaka.

I. Components of OpenStack:

OpenStack is not a single project but a group of open source projects that aim to provide complete cloud services. OpenStack contains many components:

1. OpenStack compute: is a module that manages and provides virtual machines. Its development name Nova. It supports many hypervisors including virtualization KVM, QEMU, LXC, XenServer… Compute is a powerful tool that can control all the work: networking, CPU, storage, memory, create, control and delete machines. virtual, security, access control. You can control it all with commands or from the dashboard on the web.2. OpenStack Glance: is OpenStack Image Service, which manages virtual disk images. Glance supports Raw, Hyper-V (VHD), VirtualBox (VDI), Qemu (qcow2) and VMWare (VMDK, OVF) images. You can do: update more virtual disk images, configure public and private images and control access to them, and of course create and delete them.3. OpenStack Object Storage: used to manage storage. It is a distributed storage system for managing all types of archives such as: archives, user data, virtual machine images… There are many layers of redundancy and replication is done automatically, so that when there is node failure failure does not result in data loss, and recovery is performed automatically.4. Identity Server: authentication management for users and projects.5. OpenStack Network: is a network management component for virtual machines. Provides network as a service functionality. This is a pluggable, scalable and API-driven.6 system. OpenStack dashboard: provides administrators and users with a graphical interface to access, provision, and automate cloud resources. The scalable design makes it easy to add external products and services such as billing, monitoring, and other monitoring tools.

II. We are using a KVM raid 10 vps system and in the near future we will support more OpenStack technology for virtualization of some customer servers.
